Christians after Christendom
The days of Christianity providing a unifying moral vision for our culture (Christendom) are over. Abraham Kuyper anticipated this contemporary problem facing American Christians and can help us develop a persuasive and public Christian program.
Dr. W. Robert Godfrey is the chairman of Ligonier Ministries and serves as a teaching fellow. He is also a minister in the United Reformed Churches in North America. Now president emeritus and professor emeritus of church history, Dr. Godfrey was president of Westminster Seminary California near San Diego for twenty-four years. A fifth-generation Californian, he grew up in the Bay Area. He studied at Stanford University and received his bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. from that school. He also has an M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. His theological training allows him to apply biblical insights to contemporary issues facing Christians and society. Dr. Godfrey is known for his engaging teaching style, notably in Ligonier’s extensive seventy-three-part series “A Survey of Church History.” An accomplished author, his works include God’s Pattern for Creation, Saving the Reformation: The Pastoral Theology of the Canons of Dort, and the autobiographical book An Unexpected Journey, a spiritual and intellectual pilgrimage within the Christian faith. The book is particularly notable for detailing his transition from a nominal Christian upbringing to a deeper and more profound understanding and commitment to Reformed Christianity.
Chris Larson serves as the President and CEO of Ligonier Ministries, a role he has embraced since joining the team in 2004. Working closely alongside the late Dr. R.C. Sproul for many years, Chris has been instrumental in steering Ligonier’s strategic outreach initiatives and managing daily operations with a commitment to faithfully upholding Dr. Sproul’s theological vision. His transition from the educational and corporate sectors to Ligonier reflects his deep passion for the ministry’s mission to proclaim the holiness of God among the nations through sound biblical teaching and resources.
